What is the legal definition of Hearing?

In the legal context, Hearing means (a) The ability to hear; the auditory sense. (b) A procedure during which evidence is taken to determine an issue of fact and to come to a decision based on that evidence. A hearing may take place out of court, but it must be presided over by someone with judicial authority.
